Party Hopping at Casino & Kizomba Parties

Although I’m STILL in Love with Salsa/Mambo as sure as the first day I started, it is always good to stretch out my dance muscles and expand my dance vocabulary doing different partner work dances with different timing. It keeps the follow skills nimble and resistant to anticipation! Last night, I did just that checking out DC Casineros Casino Cuban Social and later Oscar BA’s Kizomba Social!

The Casino Social was held in North East DC near Catholic University in their revitalized Night District! Safe Parking with much street lights, safe neighborhood! The dance floor was fantastic- almost as good as Hollywood Ballroom! DJ Music along with banging Percussion trio for stimulating compliment! People friendly and dancers of all levels. Great Performance by the DC Casineros and a few fun Cuban animations (Leader Led Group Dancers) followed. Very community oriented night and highly enjoyable!

Next stop, the Bi-Monthly Kizomba Social sponsored by DC’s Kizomba Ambassador, Oscar BA! Held in Silver Spring, MD every 1st and 3rd Friday of the Month! Large Dance space, Pseudo Dark dancefloor with only scattered blue floor lights for illumination, great crowd- about 70 people. Kizomba and other African House Beats thumping with mini salsa/bachata 2 song set thrown in for variety. Dancers of all levels, extremely friendly low key crowd, nice ambiance! Bonus- this social goes to 3am!

All in All, What a Wonderfully delightful dance night at both parties! My follow was highly challenged and stimulated with high level leads from DC’s Casino, Kizomba, Bachata, & Zouk World with one thrilling Mambo with DC’s Kizomba Ambassador Oscar B.A. at The DC Casinero Social AND The Kizomba Social tonight! I would grade my follow tonight a solid B based on the feedback received from my partners. And yes, I have Salsa/Mambo to thank for that. Good follow technique is pretty much the same in all partnerwork genres as long as you keep the timing of that genre AND your partner. However, I still need to relax more and allow my inner sexy/style to emerge more. Will work on it.
