(DISCLAIMER- If you have performed to this song, I’m not shatting on your performance. Just stating my dismay about the overuse of this song!)
UPDATE FROM RESPONSE TO THIS BLOG ON FB- I’ve since learned the name of the song in question is Propuesta Indecente.
Going through performance videos I clipped Friday night from the DC Bachata Congress, I must say it was a pretty good show considering its length. Not a lot of filler. Many of the shows were Bachata of course since it was a Bachata Congress but most groups were able to execute a choreo that was distinctive with their own flava and steez. But one annoying detail did stand out from more than a few of the acts. I don’t know the name of this ubiquitous Bachata song but nearly HALF of the acts performed to THIS ONE FREAKING SONG. Its a Bachata song that starts out with a Tango influenced intro before it goes into its pop bachata romantica refrain.
Now this song was used alot last year so I’m rather BOTHERED that I have to keep hearing this song being raped on the stage again and again THIS YEAR TOO. Obviously, trends in performance songs aren’t limited to Bachata; I remember a particular mambo song being abused left and right here in the states AND in Europe on the stage. But I guess this is my first time seeing the same lazy, miserable phenomenon in Bachata. Can’t we all just agree to retire this song because it has been done to death, yes? I just hope I don’t hear this song again tonight at the shows (PLEASE GOD NO!) but I am preparing for the worse.
