Salsa Floor Craft

I received a private message from Dance Friend who was at Clarendon Grill thanking me for respecting his dance slot last night. A guy asked me to dance and led me right in the middle of a tight quad of couples who had already established dance slots in the vicinity and I guess my new partner just figured he would boldly create a new slot out of the tight sliver of space that was left. I wordlessly grabbed my partner’s hand & lead HIM to another spot on the dance floor out of the way of certain dance anarchy and contact that was sure to happen in the original spot he wanted to plant his dance flag.

I don’t like getting stepped on or having to focus on people wildly bumping into me, kicking and scratching. Unless I already know the skill level of my dance partner to negotiate tight dance slots and dance small, I do everything in my power to make sure I am dancing out of harm’s way if my partner doesn’t make this a priority HIMSELF. I’m taking this opportunity now to ACKNOWLEDGE and THANK my Salsa Teachers and Mentors like Tommy Smith, PsyniiGianni Scott, & James Yoon who made it a point to teach Salsa Floor Etiquette/Craft in class.
